Va čia galima pasižiūrėti, kaip atrodo dalis Trečiadieniuko ir sankryža, pro kurią dažnai tenka pravažiuoti degant šviesoforui

Pedro’s Tips: What to Buy First?
Posted in news, Triathlon News,

Most avid triathletes have asked: frame, groupset, wheels, helmet, powermeter and components – which to buy first??

To begin with, be prepared to spend a few dollars in triathlon. There is a lot of gear out there that will make you faster. However rule #1 is nothing makes you faster than proper training. With this in mind, you should think first of what will help your training. If a good looking set of Metron TC50 wheels will make you want to go out on a ride more than number shown on your powermeter, than you should consider buying that set of wheels first. If a good and reliable group set makes you more at ease to venture further down the road than that should be your first buy.

As for clothing, the greatest piece of equipment you can buy is always the one that fits you and your needs best. If you are looking for a bike frame, test ride it first and make sure it fits you. It should be your size, so don’t jump into a deal for a frame if it’s not your size just because it’s on sale. You will be spending a lot more on PT afterwards than the extra bucks for the bike your size.

In triathlon there’s a lot of impulse buying. People go out and spend thousands of dollars because this one new study shows that that piece of equipment will save you a hand full of seconds per 40K. Most of the studies that come out are not really new; they are made and shown in a way that makes the company that actually paid for the study look best. Always look for independent sources and not manufactures claims. The actual gain you get from any piece of equipment is only real if you use it right. If you buy a deep 80mm wheel set (such as the cool Vision Metron 81’s) and then go to race Ironman Nice (a very hilly course), all that rim height won’t really help you on race day. When buying a new wheel set consider what you are using them for. What kind of course and/or usage. For example, the Metron Disc is always faster as a back wheel in say 70% of the course whereas the extra weight won’t help you on a very hilly course. Also consider that a three spoke wheel (such as the Metron 3-Spoke) is faster on a flat course, but a deep rim wheel is more suitable for rolling hills.

One of the factors that is most discrediting is looks. Just because something like a frame, a wheelset, etc… looks better than others doesn’t necessarily mean it’s faster. However it has a huge “placebo” effect on your mind and if you feel like it makes you look fast, it’s very likely that you will feel more confident and even go indeed faster.

My perspective is to buy a bike frame, group set and then wheel set in that order. I would include some comfortable, adjustable aerobars in the bike frame and Vision’s Trimax Carbon allows you to adjust paddings, bar length and elbow high/width within a budget. If you want to go fancy, the Metron TFA aerobar will make you feel fast.

Bottom line is you need to prioritize what makes you train better to race stronger, not the other way around. The piece of equipment that will make you go out more often is the one you should get first.

Netyčia landžiodamas po forumus aptikau greičių skaičiuoklę su daugiau galimybių nei pas Sheldon Brown, galima įvesti nuo kokio iki kokio kadenso, kokiu žingsniu atlikti skaičiavimus. Gal kam pravers :)
